Fixing Diverticulitis Effectively

Divertiuclitis is literally a pain in the arse. Do you say that often about things in your life?
Quick physics lesson: Language carries a frequency just like everything else in on this planet.
Watch your words or might be creating health issues in your body. Case in Point is colon issues such as diverticulitis.
There is a lot to unpack here for this health issue, so let’s get started.
What is Diverticulitis?
Diverticulitis is when there are small pockets develop in the lining of the large intestine wall. To give you a visual of this, if you have ever seen someone with skin tags, it looks similar to that, but inside your colon. The pockets can become infected or inflamed which can be very painful. Lack of exercise, poor diet, and some medications are the causes of this health issue.
Skin Comparison
Our bodies can only process so many toxins in a 24 hour day. If the liver is struggling to get toxins out effectively, it shows up on the skin. One of the ways the body does this is by creating skin tags. Storing toxins to be processed for another day. For skin tags, you can get them removed easily. For diverticulitis, it isn’t so easy to just remove them. However, because the colon is repairable tissue, you can work on repairing the tissue to release the pockets and build healthy colon walls for yourself.
How to fix
Your colon is a muscle, you are either keeping it strong or you are not. Tissue can be repaired if you are providing what is necessary to do the work. When u cut your arm, it heals. There isn’t any reason the tissue inside of you can’t do the same thing. You can see your arm heal. You can’t see the tissue inside of you heal, but you can focus on seeing that happen in your mind's eye. Just like a runner sees himself winning a race, see your body using what it knows instinctively to do the job. A new client came to me many years ago and said that she had diverticula and a tumor removed off her colon and her doctor told her she would always have scars on the colon from that - but after working with me for several months, when she went back to get another view of her colon, it had completely healed. Her doctor said to keep doing what she is doing.
Bowel movements
Unless you are 10 years old, most people don’t like to talk about poop. But it important to pay attention to your bowels. There is information there if you are paying attention. If you watch dogs or children, they eat, then they poop. That is what is supposed to happen.
Most people eat 3 meals a day, which means they should be having 3 bowel movements a day to remove fecal matter. If 3 cars go in the tunnel, 3 better come out the other side. If your body isn’t flushing toxins properly, where are the toxins supposed to go?
Many natural health professionals promote that we live and die by what is going on in our colon. Toxins come from so many things around us - bad water, bad food, scents in everything from soap, dryer sheets, perfume/cologne, memory foam mattresses, and even toxic people. You can read more about the toxins around us HERE. Pay attention to all the little toxic things in your life. They all add up and put stress on your body to process consistently, but there is only so much our bodies can process.
Emotional Underpinnings
There is an underlying emotion for all issues/organs in the body. Lungs is grief, stomach is worry and colon is all about control. If you have ever potty trained a 2-year old you may have seen them focused on controlling their bowels so they don’t have to go potty and instead get to play. For kids, they typically want something, often something unreasonable, and yet they think they need it and parents see them get constipated trying their hardest to get the thing they want. Of course it is a waste of time to try and reason with a 2-year old. So other tactics are needed which is a topic for another day.
For adults, I often see people holding onto or burying emotions that they are not acknowledging which need to be processed and released. This can present as trying to control others or situations outside of themselves which they typically have no way to control. But typically what I have seen is clients controlling emotions they don’t want to feel or express. Once the focus is directed back to the persons issue at hand, and they can process this with whatever tools they choose, the energy is moved and healing can begin. HERE is an article that discusses how to explore underlying emotions with several tools that have worked for myself and my clients.
How do I fix this?
Pay attention to what is going in, on and around you. The food, the water, the emotions, the words you use to speak to yourself, the people, and the air. Once you evaluate these, getting a quality air filter, water filter, and review the people in your life, looking at what you are feeding your body is next.
Initially it can be a good idea to remove most foods from your diet so that your body can focus on healing. Eating things like Bone Broth (rich in minerals to help your body heal) is important. Taking quality electrolytes is also important. Coconut water is another nutritious beneficial food high in potassium. Sticking to homemade nutritious soups can also be beneficial. Reach out if you need some good recipes.
It is best to eliminate any and all foods that could be the culprit such as any fast/junk food, sugar, wheat, rice, beans, dairy, nuts/seeds (they go rancid), seed oils (soy, canola/rapeseed, etc).
Stick to high quality grass-fed meats and pastured eggs to get the best nutrition. Quality cooked vegetables can be added only if your body tolerates them. Good fats like lard, tallow, coconut oil, butter or ghee are best. Check out carnivore diets - there is so much good research on this now and how it is helping people with all kinds of health issues. Your blood type may be a factor, you can read more about that HERE - Blood type A's often do better on a quality vegetarian diet, but listen to your body and what feels best for you.
What about fiber?
Some may think they can just start taking fiber to help this issue. Fiber can be beneficial from vegetables, however it is just one part of the puzzle and not all fibers are the same. Senna, Cascara Sagrada, Psyllium, Triphala all work differently and can be helpful depending on your situation, but they can also just cause spasms in your colon and that is not helpful. Senna actually depletes potassium from the body. So know what you are taking and what it is doing for your body.
Other supplements
If your bowels aren't moving regularly, taking magnesium and/or vitamin C are better choices to start out as they are something our bodies need for so many things, and they help move the bowels naturally. You can learn about the different types of magnesium HERE to determine what is best for your situation. And HERE is an article on choosing supplements. When purchasing supplements, be sure to purchase from a quality company. The majority of products on the market are not considered quality, and either do nothing, or just make the body more toxic.
There are some herbs that are good to help calm spasms in the colon and can even help to repair damaged tissues. Slippery elm, marshmallow and plantain are just a few that work well together to repair tissues in the colon gently and effectively. There are several good herbal combination products that are made specifically for healing the colon and abdominal tissues.
Enzymes are used for digestion, but they are also used by our bodies to repair tissues. There are many on the marketing so check with your health professional to determine the best one for your issue. This article discusses the difference between enzymes and probiotics as people get them confused often. Probiotics can also be helpful for some people. You can learn more about probiotics HERE.
The important thing to remember is that everything you are putting in your body is either feeding your body or making you sick. Unfortunately the standard American diet is not something that feeds people correctly. There is so much information available now on this - books, videos, articles, etc. Some of the leading experts include Dr. Robert Lufkin, Dr. Jason Fung, and Dr. Paul Saldino.
